Welcome to "Kahlo" - the third album in Jah Freedom's series of recontextualizing visual artists with his unique musical vision. This time, Jah has chosen the acclaimed artist Frida Kahlo as his muse, and the result is an audio interpretation of some of her most famous and obscure works of art.

Jah's aim was to capture the deep feelings and spirit of Frida Kahlo's art and share the emotions that arise when observing her pieces and the deep meanings behind them. From the brooding bass on "The Dream the Bed" to the uplifting chords and free-flowing drums of "Tree of Hope," the album is an exploration of the spirit and an homage to Frida Kahlo's life and work.

To truly appreciate the scope of this album, we recommend observing the paintings that inspired it. Jah's love of Frida Kahlo started in middle school, where his older cousin, who was his art teacher, introduced him to her works. Two quotes from Frida that helped shape him artistically and as a person are: “I used to think I was the strangest person in the world, but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me, too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you” and "I paint flowers so they will not die."
